'5110' 2000 documents eight musicians playing ring tones from the Nokia 5110 mobile telephone. It was recorded at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. The musicians were given the choice of selecting their ring tone from a number of scores transposed from the melodies of the Nokia 5110 to suit their particular instruments. For the performance itself, the musicians were asked to begin and cease playing, for a duration, mimicking the incessant ringing of an unanswered call. After persevering they were told to give up and leave the stage. They were arranged in an outward facing circle so as to remove the possibility for them to engage and communicate with one another effectively.
