When Clapping One Handed 2008, red neon flashing 60 x 20 x 5cm
Series 1 – 1 (+ artist’s proof) SOLD
In this work Melvin uses both flashing and non illuminated neon to expose hidden meaning in existing words. Rather than flashing “Applause” the work continually reiterates “A pause”, the moments of silence between clapping, in an effort to create a direct visual and oral negative of a word and its associations.
